Discover the joy of observing plants up close and translating them into beautiful watercolor paintings. This class introduces essential techniques for drawing flora, selecting effective compositions, and applying watercolor methods and basic principles of art to create successful works.
Students will work with recommended materials that support confidence and skill-building in watercolor. A full supplies list will be provided before the start of class, which includes a plastic palette with a lid, basic warm and cool watercolor paints, 140 lb watercolor paper, a selection of brushes, and standard drawing tools.
Suggested and Required Supplies
Plastic white palette with cover, with 12 or more wells and space for mixing
One small tube each of a warm and cool yellow, red, blue, and green (8 tubes total)
140 lb watercolor paper, 9 x 12 inches or 12 x 16 inches (pad or six individual sheets)
Watercolor brushes: round size 8, 10, or 12; flat or filbert ½ inch or 1 inch; one scrubber brush
Water container
Paper towels
Pencil
Kneaded rubber or white plastic eraser
Instructor bio: Donna Underwood is a retired art teacher who has an Art Education Master’s degree from FIU, is a volunteer in the art community, served as chair of a local Art in Public Places Board, illustrated three children's books, adjudicates local and state art shows and is represented by the Grove Gallery and Interiors in Coconut Grove.
