The Art of Macramé: Fruit Hammock

DATE: Saturday 2/28/26   TIME: 10:30am - 12:00pm

Mangos, bananas, lemons, onions, potatoes, and tomatoes - just some of the fruits and vegetables that store beautifully at room temperature, when not in contact with hard surfaces, and when given proper air circulation.

In fact, did you know that as soon as you refrigerate bananas, they lose their ability to stay crispy and crunchy if you decide to dehydrate them? Under refrigeration, tomatoes can lose a lot of flavor nuance, and some people believe the same is true of mangos. Sometimes storing items in the fridge can degrade fruit quality, despite the cold contributing to a longer shelf life.

Rey Alvarez of Macramé del Rey, teaches us how to create a beautiful and functional fruit hammock with the art of Macramé.

During the class, your instructor will introduce you to the history of macramé and teach you a few basic knots to get you started, walk you through the planning and design process, and practice how to make a fruit hammock using those knots. This is a beginner macramé class! No prior experience is needed.

Materials will be provided.
