Discover the fascinating world of orchid propagation with this hands-on, interactive demonstration. The class begins with a brief PowerPoint presentation covering the basics of in-vitro orchid cultivation—from seed to flasked plantlet. Participants will then follow along as we de-flask orchid plantlets and transplant them into propagation trays. All materials, including plantlets, are provided, and each participant will leave with their newly potted orchids to continue growing at home.
Instructor bio: Serena of Lady Vanda Orchids has been cultivating orchids since childhood, starting with the common moth orchid often found at big-box stores. As her skills grew, she expanded her expertise to include genera such as Vandas and Cattleyas. Over the years, she built an extensive collection, sourcing orchids from growers across South Florida and online.
As her passion for orchids deepened, Serena transitioned into education and founded Lady Vanda Orchids, a business dedicated to helping growers of all levels improve their cultivation techniques. She travels throughout Florida, attending orchid shows and collaborating with orchid societies to provide educational programs for their members.
Her teachings cover all aspects of orchid care, including disease control, plant nutrition, watering techniques, proper lighting, and repotting or mounting methods. Serena’s goal is for every participant to leave her presentations with a greater appreciation for orchids and a better understanding of how to address challenges in their own collections. She firmly believes that everyone has a green thumb—Lady Vanda Orchids can help you find yours.
