Wednesdays, March 18 - April 22, 2026 | 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM (6 sessions)
Explore the expressive possibilities of printmaking while drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of Fairchild Gardens. In this 6 week in person course, we will use gelli plates to create layered botanical prints that celebrate color, texture, and observation.
Gelli printing is an approachable and highly experimental form of monoprinting. You will learn basic printing techniques while exploring how to build compositions using layered color, found textures, plant forms, stencils, and transparent marks. Each week will focus on developing stronger prints through simple but effective methods for creating depth, rhythm, and visual interest.
The garden will serve as our primary source of inspiration as we study the shapes of tropical leaves, the interplay of light and shadow, and the natural patterns found throughout the landscape. You will have the freedom to experiment while also learning practical skills for making more intentional and dynamic prints.
No printmaking experience is necessary. Whether you are new to art or looking to expand your creative practice, this course offers a welcoming space for exploration and discovery.
Materials: A gelli plate is required. Please bring a brayer and acrylic paints. Additional papers, tools, texture and paint materials will be provided in class for exploration throughout the series.
