Family Gardening Workshop: Worm Farms with The Worm Queen

DATE: Saturday 7/11/26   TIME: 11:00am - 1:00pm

Get ready to wiggle into the world of worms! In this hands-on Kids Vermiculture Workshop, children will build their very own mini worm farm and learn how worms turn food scraps into nutrient-rich soil. Perfect for young eco-enthusiasts, this workshop dives into soil ecology and the science of decomposition to show how the amazing earthworm works its magic. To build our miniature ecosystems together, we ask each child to bring a clear, recycled plastic container, such as a berry clam-shell, yogurt tub, or old Tupperware, along with some plant-based food scraps from breakfast or dinner. Using a mix of items brought from home and materials provided, we will create a thriving, takeaway worm habitat and discover exactly how these little creatures turn your kitchen scraps into healthy dirt.

All children must be accompanied by an adult guardian for the duration of the class.

Instructor Bio: Melissa Corichi founded her company, Let it Rot in 2015, while attending the Harriet Wilkes Honors College. Featured in the Palm Beach Post, Biocycle, on WPTV and The Weather Channel, Melissa, or The Worm Queen, is considered an expert in her field of vermiculture and food waste reduction in application to sustainable farming and gardening. In more recent years, Melissa has dedicated her time to Pollinator gardens promoting native and exotic plants that support all species of pollinator organisms.
